Why Do These Digital Art Just Look Great?? Series Vol. 2

Some digital art just look great – they’re creative, unique, and eye-pleasing in every way. These digital art can easily become “Featured Artwork” or “Popular this week/month” type of work on major art portals , attracting large amount of audiences.

But what really makes these digital art look great? In this series, I will show you where to look in these artworks and see how the artists enhance the overall look and feel. It is my hope that these analysis would inspire and set you on the right track for your own project.

1. Eve by Carlos-Quevedo

Overall: Gorgeous surreal/fantasy human photo manipulation. There are a lot of mystical objects of the artwork however they don’t look cluttered. Great selection of colours. 


What makes this digital artwork look so good:

Beautiful eye manipulation with golden/fiery effect


Fantastic hair painting techniques providing motion for the artwork:


Great break-apart effect on the left wrist:


The addition of serpents really gives the image a mystic effect:


Ancient writings on the sash adds more sophistication to the image:


The clever inclusion of religious symbols and ornaments really fits the concept of this artwork:


2. Pandora by Hfivestudio

Overall: Great fantasy landscape digital art, fantastic depth and contrast.


What makes this digital artwork look so good:

Great painting techniques for the cloud and mists around the canvas:


The addition of alien flying creatures really gives the artwork a fantasy/surreal feeling:


Futuristic aircraft with motion blur add dynamics to the image:


Massive feature tree is the centre piece of the entire artwork:


Distant floating natural objects add depth to the landscape, as well as making the artwork even more surreal:



3. Another start by GeneRazART

Overall: Brilliant manipulation, it transforms a boring scene (boy waiting at bus stop) into a beautiful surreal environment. Great colour selection and painting techniques.


What makes this digital artwork look so good:

The addition of water reflection of the boy looks quite realistic:


Flying leaves enhance the artistic effect of the image:


This is probably the most realistic rain painting I’ve seen for a while:


The author didn’t forget to add some water splashes over the ground:


A distant mystical tree can be seen through the bus stop window – adding depth to the image:


The bus stop sign has been rusted up with some dirt and paint loss effect added to it:
