Generate Background in Photoshop is a revolutionary new feature that lets you replace an image’s background with an AI-generated scene, unlocking endless creative possibilities. In this tutorial, we will show you exactly how to use this new feature to boost your creativity and enhance your image.

Do I need to Upgrade My Photoshop to Access this Feature?

The Generate Background feature is currently available in the latest Photoshop beta. So mostly like you will need to download or update your existing Photoshop to access this feature.

How Does Generate Background Work?

Powered by Adobe Firefly, Generate Background utilizes the power of AI to analyze your image and understand the subject. It then removes the existing background and generates a brand new one based on your description. This means you can ditch the green screens and say goodbye to tedious background removal techniques.

Let’s Practice

We will practice the use of this new feature with this image here.

Step 1

Open your image in Photoshop.

If none of the initial backgrounds strike your fancy, don’t worry! Simply edit your description and click “Generate” again to explore new possibilities. The more specific your description, the better AI can understand your vision.

Unlock Further Creativity (Optional)

Generate Background offers two additional AI features to enhance your experience:

  • Generate Similar: Like a particular background, but want slight variations? Choose that background’s thumbnail and click the menu icon (three dots) in the corner. Select “Generate Similar” to explore variations based on your chosen style.
  • Enhance Detail: AI-generated backgrounds might have a lower resolution than your original image. To address this, hover over your chosen background thumbnail and click the “Enhance Detail” icon. This leverages AI to effectively double the background’s resolution, resulting in sharper details.

Finalize and Refine

Once you’ve found the perfect background, you can further refine the image using Photoshop’s editing tools. Adjust lighting, colors, and blend the background seamlessly with your subject for a natural look.

Additional Tips & Tricks for Generate Background

Here are some additional tips to get the most out of Generate Background Photoshop:

    • Start with a high-quality image. The better your original image, the better the AI can understand the scene and generate a natural-looking background.
    • Experiment with different descriptions. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your prompts! The more details you provide, the more likely AI is to capture your vision.
    • Use reference images for inspiration. If you have a specific background in mind, find a reference image and use it as a guide when writing your description.
    • Combine AI with your editing skills. Generate Background is a powerful tool, but it doesn’t replace your artistic touch. Use Photoshop’s editing tools to refine the generated background and create a truly stunning image.

    Conclusion

Generate Background Photoshop is a game-changer for photographers and creatives alike. It opens a world of possibilities, allowing you to effortlessly place your subjects in any environment imaginable.

So, unleash your creativity, embrace the power of AI, and start generating stunning backgrounds for your photos today!
