In this tutorial, you will learn how to create this ancient text effect inspired by the game “Mortal Shell” in Photoshop.

To complete this tutorial, you will need the following stocks:
Ancient Ruin by dreamlikestock
Step 1
Create a new document sized 1400px * 765px with black background. Copy and paste the ancient ruin stock photo onto our document, place it as shown below:
Apply the following image adjustments to this ancient ruin layer:
Black and White
Levels
Curves
Use a soft eraser, fade the edges of the ancient ruin layer:
Use a cloud brush or the cloud filter, add some cloud effect around the ruin:
Step 2
Use the font we downloaded, type the texts onto our document:
Use a small soft eraser, fade the bottom part of the texts so it blends into with the ground:
Load the tree bark brush into Photoshop and select the following part:
Copy and paste the selection onto our document and cover our texts, set it as a clipping mask to the text layer:
and here is the effect so far:
Step 3
Load the particle stock image into Photoshop, and select the entire canvas:
Copy and paste the selection to our document, cover the entire canvas. Set its blend mode to “Screen”:
Apply the following black and white adjustment to this particle layer:
and here is the effect so far:
Step 4
We’re almost done! For final touches, I applied the following select color adjustments on top of all previous layers:
